Top Rated MACS Program
I hope everyone had a Merry Christmas and has started the new year on a good foot. It’s been too long, but we’re finally back and have exciting news to share in this week’s column!
Right before Christmas, the Mississippi Treasury’s Mississippi Affordable College Savings program was ranked by Forbes as one of the best college savings programs in the country! This is a huge accomplishment because there are many bigger states with more resources that pour money into their programs to have the best, and we stood out amongst them.
Now if you asked me what stands out about MACS compared to other programs, I would say a lot. However, a few highlights include a low starting price point, different investment options, no residency requirement, and easy contribution/withdrawal.
To get started, you need just 25 dollars to open a MACS account. This makes our plan affordable and flexible for everyone. Friends and family are also welcome to contribute. There are 10 different investment options, including age-based options with MACS that have different risk levels. There is no residency requirement, meaning out-of-state individuals can open and contribute as well.
As part of our efforts to modernize the Mississippi Treasury and impact as many Mississippi families as possible, we rebranded our program to include saving for college and career goals. I give credit to MACS for not only covering tuition and education expenses but job training expenses as well. Along with modernizing, families can now contribute by using Venmo, PayPal, and crypto. These efforts have opened more doors and allowed even more families to contribute.

I’m really proud of all that we have accomplished at the State Treasury during the last five years, and I’m excited to see all that we will accomplish during my sixth year as your State Treasurer. This was truly the best Christmas present.
