College Savings Deadline Approaching

Dear Friends,
Last week, seven of Mississippi’s eight public colleges announced tuition increases, with the only exception being Jackson State University. These annual tuition hikes seem to be more and more of the norm. And without question, the rising prices have left many students deeper and deeper in debt. In fact, the average Mississippi graduates with $30,000 worth of student loan debt.
The State Treasury can help protect your family from tuition increases. We offer state-backed plans that allow you to lock in today’s tuition rates and prepay college. Our open-enrollment season is set to end on May 31, 2022, and rates are likely to rise when a new season begins in September.
If you are interested in locking in the lowest rates, please consider opening a Mississippi Prepaid Affordable College Tuition (MPACT) plan today. You can learn more at Treasury.MS.gov/MPACT or by calling my office at (601) 359-3600.
Sincerely,
David McRae
